X ends creator revenue sharing, introduces 'Original Content Rewards'

The social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has announced the discontinuation of its existing revenue-sharing program for content creators. A new initiative, dubbed "Original Content Rewards," is set to launch on September 8th.

This change replaces a previous program that faced scrutiny and saw its terms revised under Elon Musk's ownership. Eligibility for the new program requires creators to have at least 500 verified followers and accumulate at least 500,000 impressions on their Home Timeline from verified users within the last 90 days.

Rewards will be determined by "qualified impressions" on "original content." Qualified impressions are defined as unique views from Premium subscribers within the Home Timeline feed, where at least 50% of the post is visible.

X has not yet detailed the specific distribution methods for these rewards or the exact portion of advertising revenue that will be shared. The previous system was tied to ad revenue, but the precise financial mechanics of the new program remain unspecified.
