Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine opens applications for inaugural class

Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine has officially opened its application cycle through the American Medical College Application Service. Located in the New Orleans BioDistrict, the institution is a partnership between Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health, representing the fifth historically Black medical institution in the United States.

The launch comes as health authorities project a significant shortfall of medical professionals. The National Health Resources and Services Administration estimates that the United States could face a shortage of more than 141,000 physicians by 2038. The college aims to bridge this gap by integrating academic instruction with early clinical immersion and community-based service.

"The Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine represents an opportunity to reimagine how we educate and prepare future physicians," said Leonardo Seoane, MD, founding dean of the college. The curriculum includes a pre-matriculation program and a student success center, designed to support professional development and academic performance from the onset of the program.
