Microsoft's Xbox Series S and Series X consoles saw an 86% year-over-year sales increase in the U.S. during June, marking the highest monthly sales record for the consoles this year. The data comes from market research firm Circana.

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella suggested that the significant jump in sales was partly due to a low comparison base from June of the previous year. That period saw lower sales figures for Xbox consoles, influenced by the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 handheld and preceding price increases on Xbox hardware.

Another contributing factor to the June sales surge may have been anticipation of further price hikes. Reports indicate Microsoft is planning additional price increases for Xbox products in August, potentially driving consumers to purchase before the higher costs take effect.

In contrast, sales for other major consoles declined during June. The Nintendo Switch 2 experienced a 78% decrease in sales, while the Sony PlayStation 5 saw a 43% drop compared to the same month last year. This trend suggests shifting consumer preferences or market saturation for existing hardware.
