The e-commerce platform Xianyu saw a significant surge in demand for AI-related services during the first half of 2026. The platform processed 9.816 million AI service orders, marking a 157% increase compared to the same period last year. The number of users purchasing AI services nearly doubled, growing by 98% to reach close to 5 million.
Analysis of order categories indicates that AI skill services were the most popular, accounting for 45.1% of all AI orders. AI tutorials and courses comprised 8.1%, while AI templates and workflows, which include specialized services like workflow customization and AI agent building, represented 6.6%.
The fastest-growing service segments included AI programming and website building, which experienced a 1,732% increase in orders. Orders for AI-generated comics and presentations also saw substantial growth, rising by 1,425% and 264%, respectively.
Seller demographics revealed that over 60% were between 18 and 35 years old, with female sellers making up 62.4% of the total. The average monthly transaction value per seller was 897 yuan, with many operating these services as side businesses. Some sellers achieved notable success, including one who sold 17,000 guides for AI comic creation within the six-month period.
Geographically, the highest concentration of sellers originated from fourth-tier cities (32.2%), followed by second-tier cities (28.6%). Among buyers, second-tier city users represented 30.6% of the total, surpassing first-tier cities, while fourth-tier cities accounted for 26.1%.
