Social media platform Xiaohongshu announced recently that it has closed 356 accounts that were impersonating public figures or misleading users.

The actions are part of the platform's "Qinglang" campaign, aimed at rectifying irregularities and misuse found in account names and associated information. During the campaign, Xiaohongshu has also taken action on personal information for over 31,000 other accounts and has sent over 9,700 accounts a notice to complete account verification within 15 days. Accounts that fail to verify within the deadline will face further action.

Among the non-compliant accounts were those impersonating public figures, including athletes like Neymar and Messi, by using their names or phrases like "I am X" to create a false impression of identity. The platform also identified accounts that sought to solicit funds through false narratives related to social events and even promoted misleading job advertisements within their images.

Additionally, Xiaohongshu has addressed accounts offering paid services to verify accounts with badges such as "blue V," creating a deceptive impression of official status. The platform stated it will continue to regularly report on its governance progress and encourages users to report any detected misuse.
