Xiaohongshu Removes Over 240,000 Harmful Posts, Closes Thousands of Accounts
Social media platform Xiaohongshu has removed over 128,000 harmful posts and 152,000 comments, while closing 6,252 accounts as part of a campaign to protect minors.
Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu announced on September 24 that it has taken down a significant volume of harmful content and suspended thousands of user accounts as part of an ongoing effort to protect minors.
According to the company's statement, by September 24, Xiaohongshu had removed more than 128,000 posts and over 152,000 comments deemed in violation of its policies. Additionally, 6,252 user accounts were permanently closed. These actions are in line with China's broader "Qinglang" campaign, which aims to improve the online environment for minors.
The platform's recent enforcement targeted content that propagated unhealthy subcultures or harassed underage users. Xiaohongshu has intensified its risk assessment and monitoring processes, specifically identifying and addressing content that could negatively influence minors' physical and mental well-being.
Xiaohongshu also addressed cases involving content used for marketing or group behavior promotion. Examples cited include content that encouraged minors to participate in potentially harmful physical activities or promoted negative attitudes towards schooling. The platform responded by banning involved accounts and removing related content.
Looking ahead, Xiaohongshu stated it will continue to refine its recommendation algorithms and strengthen content moderation related to the well-being of minors. The company affirmed its commitment to a "zero tolerance" policy towards any actions that infringe upon the legitimate rights of minors.
