Xiaohongshu reportedly launches internal Darwin project for new product development

Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu has initiated an internal startup incubation program, codenamed Darwin. The program is reportedly focused on developing new products separate from Xiaohongshu's primary application.

According to reports, the initiative has opened applications to employees. Selected participants will dedicate themselves full-time to developing new ventures, with guidance from senior company executives. Access to Xiaohongshu's internal resources will be provided to support product development efforts.

The program's stated goal is to foster products with the potential to achieve a scale comparable to Xiaohongshu's core platform. Individuals leading successful projects may be appointed to product lead roles at the company's L1 management level. Xiaohongshu has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The Darwin project signifies an internal push by Xiaohongshu to explore new market opportunities and diversify its offerings. It aims to provide a structured environment for employees to innovate and potentially launch the company's next major product.
