Xiaomi has released further details regarding the classification and specifications of its new Pengcheng N90 Max Explorer Edition model. The vehicle's official designation in China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announcement is 'plug-in hybrid culture-life service vehicle.' Xiaomi clarifies that this classification effectively equates to a small special-purpose passenger car under Chinese national standards.

The company explained that for private car owners, the primary difference compared to a standard small passenger car is the requirement for a technical inspection at a vehicle inspection agency before initial registration. This inspection covers aspects such as appearance, lighting, emissions, braking, seat structure, and weight.

Despite the specific classification, Xiaomi emphasizes that in terms of daily use and policy requirements, the N90 Max Explorer Edition aligns with standard small passenger cars. This includes its regular vehicle inspections, adherence to local traffic restrictions, and eligibility for national policies such as free highway tolls during major holidays. The vehicle's integrated pop-top roof, a factory-installed feature, does not require separate installation or removal during inspections, unlike aftermarket roof tent solutions.

Xiaomi also stated that the vehicle's end-of-life regulations and scrapping periods are consistent with those for regular small passenger vehicles, with no additional restrictions.
