Xiaomi Details 18 Pro Series Smart Privacy Screen Feature

Xiaomi has provided details on its new smart privacy screen technology, now integrated into its 18 Pro series of smartphones. This feature, described as a screen hardware technology, allows users to activate or deactivate privacy protection on demand.

The privacy screen functions by incorporating specialized microstructures within the display's pixels. When activated, these structures physically obstruct light from side viewing angles, limiting the screen's visibility to the direct user. This hardware-level approach aims to prevent shoulder-surfing and protect sensitive information.

Xiaomi emphasizes that the privacy feature is not a software overlay or an external film. Users can easily toggle the privacy mode on or off through various quick controls, including the control center, voice commands via Xiao AI, or a dedicated AI button. When deactivated, the screen reverts to its standard high-quality display mode without any degradation in brightness or clarity.

The company claims this integrated solution offers advantages over traditional privacy screen protectors, which can often reduce front-facing brightness and color accuracy. The 18 Pro series also features "Super Pixel" display technology for enhanced clarity and color reproduction when the privacy function is not in use. While side viewing brightness is reduced when privacy mode is on, Xiaomi states it has achieved a balance between privacy effectiveness and overall display quality.
