Xiaomi Details Remote Control for Rear Seat Entertainment System
Xiaomi has provided details on its "Pangcheng" series cars, explaining the design choices behind the physical remote for the rear seat entertainment screen.

Chinese technology company Xiaomi has shed light on specific features of its "Pangcheng" series vehicles, particularly focusing on the physical remote control for the rear seat entertainment system. The company explained that after considering various interaction methods, including gestures and touch, a physical remote was chosen for its intuitive nature.
Xiaomi stated that gesture controls present a learning curve for some users and can lack stability in a vehicle environment. Furthermore, a physical remote is unaffected by seat positions, which is beneficial for passengers seeking a comfortable viewing distance. This approach aims to replicate the familiar user experience of controlling a home television.
In line with this philosophy, the car's remote control is designed to be compatible with Xiaomi TV remotes. Users can pair their home TV remote with the car's system, and vice versa, allowing for a seamless transition of familiar controls. This interoperability is intended to make the in-car entertainment system feel as natural to use as a home entertainment setup.
The company also addressed other design elements, including the dual overhead lights for the rear passengers and the safety features of the 220V power outlet. The lights are designed for both aesthetic harmony and functional illumination, controllable via voice commands. The power outlet includes a physical cover, a switch that activates only when a device is plugged in, and overcurrent protection to ensure user safety.
