The Xiaomi Foundation has allocated 10 million yuan (approximately $1.4 million USD) to provide emergency relief and support reconstruction efforts in Zizhong County, Tibet. The funds are designated for immediate aid, temporary resettlement, and post-disaster rebuilding in the affected region.
The disaster, a major landslide originating on the Nepalese side of the border on August 26, caused significant casualties and missing persons at the Zizhong border crossing. In response, China's National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Ministry of Emergency Management activated a national Level II emergency response.
The Xiaomi Foundation has initiated its emergency response mechanism to direct these funds toward relief operations. This action aligns with the Ministry of Emergency Management's collaborative efforts to mobilize societal resources for disaster response.
As of August 26 at 8:00 PM, preliminary reports indicated three fatalities and 265 individuals missing as a result of the landslide. Rescue and investigation operations are ongoing, with casualty figures subject to further verification. The foundation stated it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further assistance in coordination with other social organizations as local needs are identified.
