Xiaomi Marks 30 Years of Auto Racing Evolution in China
Xiaomi is commemorating three decades of development in Chinese auto racing. The company showcased how national racing shifted from foreign branding in 1996 to Xiaomi's title sponsorship of the China GT series and the SU7 Ultra serving as safety cars by 2026.
Xiaomi is marking three decades of evolution in Chinese auto racing, highlighting the company's growing involvement in the sport. Founder and CEO Lei Jun shared a comparison of the Zhuhai International Circuit, the site of China's first auto race in 1996.
In 1996, the event featured foreign sponsors and foreign race cars. For 2026, Xiaomi has announced it will title sponsor the China GT series, with its SU7 Ultra models leading the field as safety cars on the same circuit.
Xiaomi deepened its commitment to motorsport earlier this year by signing agreements with China's three major circuit racing series. The company will also supply its SU7 Ultra and YU7 models as official safety and medical cars for these events.
Lei Jun has emphasized the role of the racetrack in testing automotive quality and safety. "I believe the racetrack is always the touchstone for a car's high quality and safety," he stated. "Once a product is honed on the track, the pursuit of high performance and safety is deeply ingrained in the team's DNA."
Further developments include reports of a new, higher-performance variant of the Xiaomi SU7. International media have noted test sightings of an "extreme" version, potentially named SU7 Ultra Extreme, expected to feature more aggressive aerodynamics and track-focused enhancements.
