Xiaomi Reports Two Detained Over AI-Generated Fake Crash Videos

Chinese technology company Xiaomi announced Tuesday that authorities have detained and fined two internet users for creating and disseminating fake car crash videos using artificial intelligence (AI). These videos contained misleading information about the company's automotive products and insulted its executives.

One user, identified as "旧**口", was sentenced to seven days of administrative detention and ordered to remove all infringing links. This individual was found to have consistently used AI to generate false crash videos, damaging the reputation of Xiaomi's vehicle products and insulting company management.

The second user, "花**车", received an administrative fine and was ordered to delete all damaging links for creating similar AI-generated videos that tarnished Xiaomi's brand image. Xiaomi expressed gratitude to the police for their impartial law enforcement and stressed that the internet is not beyond the reach of the law.

The company stated it will continue to use legal means to combat the misuse of AI, especially in cases of fabricating and spreading false videos that infringe upon corporate reputation. Xiaomi encouraged the public to join in fighting online rumors and maintaining a clear and orderly cyberspace.

Xu Jieyun, Xiaomi's Vice President of Strategic Marketing, commented on the matter: "AI is a good technology, but it should not be misused. Especially, do not use AI to spread rumors, otherwise, there will be consequences."
