Xiaomi shares澎程 car crash test footage, claims higher standards
Xiaomi has released footage of crash tests for its upcoming澎程 vehicle. The company states that the tests were conducted at speeds exceeding common industry standards.
Chinese tech news outlet IT Home reported on August 2 that Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun shared video footage of crash tests for the company's new澎程 vehicle series. The company claims the testing rigor significantly surpasses industry-accepted standards.
Mii澎程 vehicles underwent extensive, omnidirectional collision tests to ensure safety, according to Xiaomi. The company detailed specific test parameters, indicating higher impact speeds than typical industry benchmarks. For instance, front impact tests were performed at 64 km/h, compared to the C-NCAP standard of 56 km/h. Similarly, a 25% front offset crash test was conducted at 72 km/h, exceeding the China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI) requirement of 64 km/h.
Further details released by Xiaomi indicate that side impact tests were carried out at 70 km/h, exceeding the C-NCAP standard of 60 km/h. The rear impact test speed was reportedly 92 km/h, significantly higher than the new national standard of 50 km/h. These tests are presented as evidence of the vehicles' structural integrity and safety.
The澎程 series, which includes the N90 Max seven-seater and N70 Max five-seater SUV models, was officially unveiled at a technical launch event on July 30. Pre-sale prices for the vehicles were announced at the same event. This focus on rigorous testing aims to position Xiaomi's automotive offerings as robust and safe within the competitive electric vehicle market.
