Chinese tech company Xiaomi has unveiled details about its new N90 Max Explorer Edition SUV, highlighting a unique electric pop-top roof system. Xiaomi claims this feature is the only one of its kind integrated as original equipment in an SUV within China, aiming to expand the vehicle's internal volume and offer novel user experiences.

The N90 Max Explorer Edition is positioned as a large seven-seat flagship extended-range SUV, adapted for business needs and families. The Explorer variant specifically adopts a five-seat layout, targeting creative professionals, content creators, and outdoor enthusiasts with a concept of a "movable personal space." Its features include premium seating, an electric bed conversion, durable wood-grain flooring, adjustable floor heating, integrated storage, and a refrigerator.

When the pop-top roof is raised, the interior height can reach up to 2.29 meters, allowing occupants to stand inside the vehicle. Xiaomi emphasizes that the pop-top is designed as an integral part of the vehicle, not an add-on, contributing to a drag coefficient of 0.245. The pop-top offers an additional living space of 2.11m x 0.985m, equipped with ventilation, lighting, and charging ports.

Safety has been a key focus, with 19 safety protection designs integrated into the pop-top system. These include operational safety alerts, obstacle detection sensors, external warning sounds, and internal biometric detection to prevent entrapment. The structure has undergone rigorous testing, including a 360-degree rollover test and durability cycles for the lifting mechanism. Xiaomi advises that the pop-top function is intended for use only on non-public roads in a stationary state.
