Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng is preparing to enter the U.S. market when political conditions permit and is evaluating entry into Canada, according to foreign media reports. XPeng co-founder and CEO He Xiaopeng and head of international development Tang Zhikun outlined the company's North American expansion plans.
He Xiaopeng stated that he "understands" current U.S. policies restricting Chinese auto imports but that the company would be eager to enter the U.S. if the political environment changes. "If U.S. policy allows companies like XPeng to stay locally or enter the market and build factories, we will certainly respond positively," he said.
He believes entering North America is crucial for XPeng's growth and global technological exchange. "The U.S. will be one of the most important markets that XPeng must enter, because the U.S. market can also help us develop better," He added.
Regarding Canada, Tang Zhikun indicated that XPeng has been communicating with Canadian government officials and local partners over the past six months. The company needs to assess and plan its entry into the Canadian market, aiming for a long-term strategy to establish itself as a local brand.
XPeng's European expansion is proceeding, with Magna assembling the G9 and G6 SUVs. The company is also in discussions with Volkswagen for potential cooperation and plans to establish production bases in Europe, likely in Germany, preferring to adapt existing industrial sites for faster and more cost-effective setup.
