XPeng names robotaxi service YOYO, opens invitation-based registration in China

XPeng officially named its robotaxi service XPeng YOYO and commenced invitation-based online registration for users in China on October 8. The move expands the service's accessibility beyond internal employee testing as the company prepares for wider operational deployment.

The robotaxi is powered by four XPeng-developed Turing AI chips, offering a combined computing capacity of 3,000 TOPS. The vehicle utilizes the company's VLA 2.0 model and operates without lidar or high-definition maps. XPeng received approval in August to conduct road tests in Guangzhou without a safety operator in the driver's seat, following the production of its first robotaxi in May.

The company previously conducted internal testing of the booking and payment process at a rate of RMB 1 (approximately $0.14) per ride. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng stated that XPeng plans to generate revenue through vehicle sales, services, and commission sharing, with local fleet operations to be managed by partners.
