XtalPi and Fangda Carbon Deploy AI for Graphite Electrode Manufacturing Efficiency
XtalPi and Fangda Carbon have successfully deployed a jointly developed AI model to optimize cost and material efficiency in graphite electrode manufacturing. The system is now operational within Fangda Carbon's production workflow.

XtalPi and Fangda Carbon have implemented an artificial intelligence (AI) model to enhance cost and material efficiency in the production of graphite electrodes. The model, developed jointly by the two companies, has passed acceptance testing and is now integrated into Fangda Carbon's manufacturing processes.
The AI system forecasts performance and screens raw material formulations before physical trials, enabling the achievement of cost optimization targets and rapid evaluation of substitute materials. Graphite electrodes are essential for electric arc furnace steelmaking, and their properties depend on intricate interactions between raw materials, blend ratios, and manufacturing conditions. Variations in raw material batches necessitate frequent re-evaluation of formulations, and price volatility makes material substitution a critical operational requirement.
By leveraging Fangda Carbon's extensive manufacturing data and XtalPi's expertise in data engineering and AI algorithms, the partnership has created a system that can quickly identify cost-effective formulations meeting quality standards. The AI also evaluates alternative inputs and suggests formulation adjustments when supply or pricing shifts, significantly increasing Fangda Carbon's procurement flexibility.
This deployment follows a "compute first, verify later" approach, combining industrial expertise with data-driven predictions. For XtalPi, this marks an expansion of its industrial AI business into new materials, establishing a foundation for developing advanced carbon materials. The companies plan to further expand the system for comprehensive formulation design and process optimization.
