Yeti Pictures Creates "Miniwood" Short Film Using Cinema 4D

Digital content studio Yeti Pictures has produced "Miniwood," a short film that brings famous cinematic moments to life in a stop-motion-style miniature universe. The film extensively employs Maxon's Cinema 4D software, alongside ZBrush and Houdini, which are industry standards for 3D modeling, character design, and visual effects creation.

Yeti Pictures Founder and Director Tony Zagoraios explained that the concept for the film originated from a rejected commercial pitch. The team, however, decided not to abandon the inspiration and proceeded to develop it into an independent short film project. By selecting movie scenes that lend themselves well to a tilt-shift camera style, "Miniwood" successfully crafts recognizable yet unique miniature environments.

According to Zagoraios, character modeling was a critical element, aiming to create figures reminiscent of 1980s toys with spherical joints and a stiff appearance. Detailed focus was placed on textures and maps, as modeling clothing and other additions posed limitations. The creation of animal characters, such as the T-Rex and King Kong, also required modifications to accommodate their anatomy and animation behavior.

Among the characters, O-Ren Ishii from "Kill Bill" proved to be the most challenging, requiring precise modeling of her kimono to ensure it did not interfere with animation and various poses. The "Miniwood" project demonstrates how digital design tools enable the realization of creative visions and the construction of cinematic worlds in novel ways.
