Yili Shares China's Dairy Value Chain Symbiosis Model at FAO Conference

Yili Group, a major Chinese dairy producer, presented its comprehensive dairy value chain symbiosis model at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) inaugural Global Conference on "One Health" in Food Systems held in Rome. The "One Health" approach aims to balance and sustainably optimize the health of people, animals, and ecosystems.

During the conference, Yili Group's Vice President Xu Ke outlined three cases illustrating how healthy ecosystems, precision agriculture, and shared growth can mutually reinforce each other along the dairy value chain. One example showcased the restoration of degraded grasslands in Ar Horqin, Inner Mongolia. By integrating grazing with the planting of deep-rooted alfalfa, approximately 3,667 hectares of degraded land were revitalized, providing high-quality fodder and supporting ecosystem recovery.

The company also highlighted its commitment to animal welfare and precision farming. At Yili's Chilechuan Smart Ecological Farm, technologies such as automated temperature control and IoT-based health monitoring are employed to ensure the well-being of cows and enhance raw milk quality. This farm was recognized by the FAO as a "RENOFARM 5Gs Pilot Farm."

Furthermore, since 2014, Yili has collaborated with the FAO on "Milk Farmer Field Schools." This initiative has provided training and technical assistance to over 5.6 million herders in Inner Mongolia, reportedly doubling daily milk production and increasing the scale of dairy farming more than tenfold. Yili Group Chairman Pan Gang stated that the company will deepen collaboration with the FAO and global partners to drive high-quality development across the dairy industry and food systems.
