Yinchuan Hosts International Wine Industry Events

The city of Yinchuan, capital of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, has hosted two significant international events for the wine industry. The 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine and the International Wine, Culture and Tourism Fair commenced on October 12, highlighting the region's growing role in the global wine sector.

The congress, held in Asia for the first time since its inception in 1924, attracted over 800 participants from 51 member states of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). China officially joined the OIV in 2025, and Yinchuan's selection as host city underscores the region's decades-long commitment to developing its wine industry.

Located at the eastern foot of the Helan Mountains, the region boasts ideal conditions for viticulture, including shelter from cold air currents, water supply from the Yellow River, ample sunshine, and significant diurnal temperature variations. These factors have established the area as a premier terroir for premium wine production.

As of 2025, Ningxia had approximately 40,400 hectares dedicated to wine grape cultivation, representing about 40% of China's total planting area. The region is home to 261 wine industry companies, producing around 140 million bottles of wine annually. Furthermore, over 70% of Ningxia's technical standards align with OIV norms.
