Construction firm YIT has entered into an agreement with UAB Lithuania Defence Services to construct a production and maintenance facility for the Leopard 2A8 tank in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone, Lithuania. The project carries an approximate value of EUR 30 million for YIT and is set to be recorded in the company's third-quarter order book.

Construction is scheduled to commence in August 2026, with completion anticipated by November 2027. The project will operate under a Design-Build model, with YIT Lietuva overseeing both the design and construction phases. The facility's construction represents a significant development for Lithuania's defense sector, enabling domestic production and maintenance capabilities for its armored vehicle fleet. This investment is intended to bolster Lithuania's defense readiness and align with its strategic objectives within the NATO alliance. The project is also anticipated to generate positive employment opportunities within the region.
