YMTC PC550: PCIe 5.0 SSD Focuses on Cool Operation in Compact PCs
YMTC's new PC550 PCIe 5.0 SSD delivers high performance with controlled thermal behavior, making it suitable for small form factor systems.

The YMTC PC550 PCIe 5.0 SSD aims to balance high performance with controlled heat generation, a common challenge for fast storage solutions.
Testing of the 1TB PC550 model revealed sequential read and write speeds exceeding YMTC's official specifications. In CrystalDiskMark tests, the drive achieved 11,712.69MB/s for sequential reads and 9,501.92MB/s for sequential writes. Random read and write performance also surpassed official figures, reaching 1,403K and 1,789K IOPS respectively.
During a sustained 1TB sequential write workload in Iometer, the drive maintained an average write speed of 2,002.69MB/s. This indicates the SSD's ability to sustain significant performance even during extended file transfers after the initial cache has been utilized.
The PC550 also performed well in PCMark 10 and 3DMark Storage benchmarks, suggesting suitability for general and demanding desktop applications. In a local AI workload test using the Qwen2.5 7B model, the average model loading time was 2.07 seconds, accelerating professional workflows.
Notably, the drive demonstrated strong thermal performance. Under a demanding combined workload simulating game loading and system stress testing, the PC550 remained below 50°C. This low operating temperature is significant for compact systems where cooling solutions are often limited.
