Market research institute YouGov conducted a representative survey of 3,000 German consumers on behalf of AVM, the manufacturer of FRITZ!Box. The study explored internet usage and router selection criteria, highlighting a strong confidence in European brands and a consumer emphasis on security and reliability.

Over 90 percent of respondents identified security, reliability, and value for money as critical factors in their purchasing decisions. The FRITZ!Box emerged as a popular choice, with 51 percent of users citing its reliability, speed, and security features. The router's comprehensive functionalities, user-friendly interface with automatic updates, and customer support were also noted as key advantages.

The survey indicated a significant level of distrust towards Chinese router manufacturers, with 65 percent of respondents expressing concerns about potential security vulnerabilities. Russian manufacturers faced even higher distrust. In contrast, only 8 percent of participants reported distrust in European manufacturers, underscoring the value consumers place on locally produced, secure products.

Regarding internet connectivity, DSL remained the dominant technology at 51 percent. However, 32 percent of participants reported having access to fiber optic connections, with another 29 percent expecting availability soon. Among those already using fiber, 67 percent utilized a FRITZ!Box. The study also found that purchased routers were slightly more common than rented ones.
