Scania Finland offered an internship opportunity to Jemina Nurmi at its Lojo facility, commencing in January 2023. Nurmi, who is studying to become a vehicle mechanic at Luksia Vocational College, was initially interested in passenger cars, but her internship at Scania provided her with new pathways in the heavy vehicle sector.

Juha Mantere, Scania Lojo's customer manager, welcomed Nurmi despite her limited experience with heavy vehicles. "All that's needed is the willingness and ability to learn," Mantere stated, satisfied with Nurmi's progress and attitude towards the work.

Nurmi described the workplace atmosphere as excellent, with colleagues welcoming her warmly. She found that she learned more through practical experience than solely from theoretical studies. Peter Helenius, a teacher from Luksia involved in work-based training, praised Scania as an outstanding place for internships, noting the manufacturer's brand organization adheres to more precise standards compared to general repair shops.

Nurmi's year-long internship has also led to summer employment and recurring substitute positions at Scania Lojo. She intends to continue her career in the heavy vehicle sector and recommends the field to young individuals with sufficient interest. Scania also offers career paths beyond mechanic roles, such as expert or management positions.
