Young researchers present projects at Senckenberg

The Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt am Main served as the venue for the regional final of the 'Jugend forscht' (Young Researchers) competition for the Rhein-Main West region. The event saw 62 young scientists present a total of 31 projects.

Among the projects, participants explored the impact of planted walls on urban pollution and noise, and investigated the potential for replacing current plastics with renewable raw materials. Developed products included "Healthy Chips" made from organic carrot pomace, a disinfection device for stethoscopes, and new nail polish formulations.

"This competition offers an ideal opportunity for young researchers to present their ideas and results to a wider audience, and to engage with other young innovators and expert juries," stated competition director Dr. Sven Soff. The event awarded prizes and advancement opportunities to the state-level competition.

Students from various schools in the Frankfurt area participated. In addition to placements, numerous monetary and material prizes were awarded, including subscriptions to science magazines and student memberships to the Senckenberg museum. Deutsche Bank was among the sponsors supporting the regional competition.
