Youngstown Innovation Hub Begins Construction at YBI's 107 Building

The Youngstown Innovation Hub for Aerospace & Defense officially broke ground on Tuesday at YBI's 107 Building in Youngstown, Ohio. The initiative positions the region as a national proving ground for advanced and additive manufacturing, intended to strengthen the United States' aerospace and defense industrial base.

The Hub is one of four established across Ohio as part of a statewide effort to drive innovation-led economic growth. Upon completion, it is projected to generate approximately $161.6 million in economic impact, create 450 new jobs, and offer 185 new STEM credential opportunities and 40 internships by 2029.

The groundbreaking was supported in part by a $750,000 state capital investment. Ohio was recently ranked the No. 1 state for business by CNBC. The facility is designed with security features meeting U.S. Department of War contracting criteria, allowing tenants to compete for federal defense work.

"This Innovation Hub builds on that proud tradition while preparing the next generation for in-demand careers in manufacturing," said Ohio Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel at the ceremony. The project has received support from various local and state political leaders, as well as federal entities.
