YouTube Changes View Counting Method
YouTube will begin counting video views as soon as playback starts, aligning with Instagram and TikTok. The change, effective August 24, is expected to accelerate view count increases for creators.

YouTube is altering how it counts video views, with a view now registered the moment a video begins to play. This adjustment is set to take effect on August 24.
The platform stated that creators should anticipate a faster increase in their total view counts moving forward. This move brings YouTube's methodology in line with that of competitors like Instagram and TikTok.
Instagram and TikTok both count a view once a video starts playing or replays. X, formerly Twitter, counts a view after a user watches for at least two seconds. YouTube adopted a similar counting method for its Shorts videos last year.
The company confirmed it will retain its original view-counting system under a metric named "engaged views" for internal tracking.
