YouTube expands AI-powered music replacement tool to resolve copyright claims

YouTube has launched a global feature allowing creators to replace copyrighted audio in their videos with royalty-free AI-generated music.

3 November 2026

YouTube has rolled out its 'Replace song' tool to creators worldwide, aiming to streamline the resolution of copyright claims on its platform. The tool, integrated into YouTube Studio, allows users to swap audio flagged by Content ID systems with royalty-free instrumental tracks.

Upon receiving a copyright claim, creators can access the tool to generate four unique, approximately three-minute musical tracks. Once a replacement is selected and applied, the platform automatically removes the original copyright strike against the video. The feature currently supports only instrumental music, with no options for vocals or full song generation.

This deployment follows an initial release in the United States. By automating the replacement process, YouTube seeks to mitigate disruptions to the content creation workflow, providing a pathway for creators to maintain their visual content without facing monetization restrictions or removal due to music licensing issues.
