YouTube Music Labels AI-Generated Songs

YouTube Music has begun labeling songs created primarily with generative AI, including those where AI models generated composition and vocals. The labels appear on the player page, offering users more information.

YouTube Music has started labeling songs primarily created using generative AI, a move announced on October 14. These labels will appear on the player page, providing users with additional details about the content.

The labels will also be expanded to the main YouTube app, according to the company. YouTube will identify AI-generated tracks by utilizing information from its music partners and its own detection tools. Music partners can categorize tracks as fully AI-generated or partly AI-generated.

This marks a shift from previous practices, where AI-generated music was only labeled if the uploader chose to disclose it. The new system incorporates automatic detection and partner disclosures, particularly for AI-generated compositions and vocals. These labels do not affect the songs' revenue-earning potential.

The initiative comes as other music streaming services like Deezer, TIDAL, and Spotify are also exploring and implementing strategies for handling AI-generated music, signaling a broader industry trend towards transparency in AI usage.
