YouTube Music to Label AI-Generated Music

YouTube Music announced the rollout of a new labeling system aimed at increasing transparency around music created with generative AI. These new labels will appear on song player pages, informing listeners about the role AI played in a track's creation, from composition and vocals to entirely AI-generated works.

The labeling system will also be implemented within the main YouTube app. Users will be able to see if a track was created entirely with AI ("Fully Gen AI"), partly with AI ("Partly Gen AI"), or if AI was not involved at all ("No Gen AI"). The latter category includes tracks where tools like pitch correction software, such as Auto-Tune, have been used.

YouTube Music has collaborated with music partners and utilized its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. This initiative comes as the volume of AI-produced music rapidly expands across streaming services.

Other streaming platforms are also taking steps to identify AI music. Apple Music plans to introduce its own AI Transparency Tags later this year, and Spotify already has AI labels and spam filters for music. Deezer, on the other hand, has reported a significant increase in AI-generated music on its platform.
