YouTube raises Premium subscription prices in multiple markets

YouTube is raising the prices for its Premium subscriptions in several international markets, following increases in its US home market. The new pricing, effective from subscribers' next billing dates on or after September 23, 2026, will raise the monthly cost for the ad-free version in numerous European countries, Finland, and Singapore.

The price adjustments range from approximately 10% to 15%. For instance, in Europe, the individual plan's price will move from €13.99 to €15.99 per month. In Finland, the price will rise from €14.99 to €16.99. Romania will see its price change from RON 29 to RON 32, and Singapore from S$13.98 to S$15.98.

These increases do not apply to India, where YouTube last raised prices in August 2024. The company has also been tightening its policies regarding the use of ad-blocking software. Users employing ad blockers may be prompted to allow ads or subscribe to Premium. Continued use of ad blockers can lead to video playback being blocked, and third-party applications that remove ads violate YouTube's terms of service.

The price hikes reflect a broader trend across music streaming services and other platforms aiming to increase the significance of subscription revenue. Many companies, including Apple Music and Spotify, have also adjusted their pricing and offerings. Furthermore, paid subscription tiers are emerging on more platforms, such as social media and messaging services, creating a more segmented user experience for paying versus free users.
