YouTube has introduced a new feature called custom feeds, enabling users to describe their desired video content in natural language, with AI generating personalized recommendations.
YouTube announced on Wednesday a new feature named "custom feeds" that allows users to describe the types of videos they want to see using their own words. The platform will leverage Google's Gemini AI model to build these personalized feeds based on user prompts.
To create a custom feed, users can type a description into a prompt box, specifying their interests or desired content. Examples provided include requesting a feed of video podcasts for a commute or videos for a specific mood, such as "relaxing commentary videos to unwind with." These AI-generated feeds will be pinned to the top of the YouTube homepage under their own tab.
The introduction of custom feeds signifies an expansion of user control over content recommendations on the platform. This move aligns with similar initiatives by other social media services, including Bluesky, X, and Spotify, which have also introduced tools for users to curate their feeds through AI and natural language inputs.
