YouTube to enable image comments for all users in November

YouTube will allow users to add images and GIFs to comments starting in November. The platform is also introducing other community feature updates.

18 October 2026

YouTube is set to enable image comments for all users starting in November, allowing the direct attachment of static images and GIF animations to comments. This expansion, following an update to the YouTube Data API v3 documentation, introduces new ways for users to express themselves on the platform.

The new feature allows users to incorporate visuals into their discussions, enriching the platform's social interaction. Both static images and dynamic GIFs will be supported.

In addition to image comments, YouTube is rolling out several other community feature enhancements. In the future, viewers using YouTube on their TVs will be able to use voice comments, simplifying the input process compared to using a remote control. Creators will also receive more personalized comment management tools, with some features currently in testing.

Furthermore, YouTube channel memberships will include a new community feature exclusive to paying members, enabling them to post and initiate discussions. The platform also plans to introduce a revamped "Channel Memberships" page to help viewers discover membership plans that align with their interests.
