YPMH Joins Wellcome-Supported Mental Health Catalyst

The Foundation for Young People's Mental Health (YPMH) has joined the Mental Health Catalyst, a significant initiative supported by Wellcome and led by the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) through its knowledge transfer company, IfM Engage.

The Mental Health Catalyst was established to speed up the identification, development, and uptake of new and better interventions for individuals experiencing conditions associated with clinically significant depressed mood. For YPMH, this participation represents a crucial step in its mission to translate research into practical solutions that can prevent and reduce mental ill-health and improve outcomes.

Clinically depressed mood imposes profound costs on individuals, families, and societies. While scientific understanding of depressed mood has advanced substantially, translating this knowledge into scalable interventions has been slow. The Catalyst program aims to address this gap over a four-year period using a structured "Understand : Innovate : Implement" approach.

YPMH's involvement in the Catalyst builds upon a prior collaboration with IfM and IfM Engage that began in 2019. This partnership has focused on applying innovation management and roadmapping techniques to tackle complex challenges in mental health, leading to publications and the development of methodologies now underpinning the Catalyst initiative.
