Z.ai completes 1GW AI data center using Chinese chips

AI model developer Z.ai has completed construction of a 1 gigawatt-class AI data center. The facility exclusively uses Chinese-made AI chips, and part of it is already operational.

The data center is intended to support the training and development of the company's frontier AI models. Z.ai is among several entities aiming to leverage domestic technology suppliers for critical computing infrastructure.

The company also operates several computing clusters, each containing over 10,000 AI chips. These additions significantly increase the domestic computing capacity available for Z.ai's model development efforts.

This development aligns with broader efforts in China to enhance self-sufficiency in the semiconductor industry and reduce reliance on foreign technology.
