Z.ai, an artificial intelligence company, has announced the completion of a financing round totaling around $5 billion. The funding comprises approximately $2 billion from a share placement and roughly $3 billion raised through convertible bonds.

The company intends to allocate these funds towards the development of its next-generation GLM foundation models. This includes investments in a fully self-training system, large-scale training and inference capabilities, and upgrades to computing resources and infrastructure.

Further plans involve enhancing automated training data generation and filtering processes, establishing task environments, improving long-range reasoning abilities, and optimizing for domestic chip adaptation and inference.

This capital injection is expected to accelerate Z.ai's progress in advancing the capabilities and scalability of its AI models.
