Zara Collection by John Galliano Faces Criticism Over Materials and Pricing

Zara, the global fast fashion retailer, has released a new collection designed in partnership with controversial designer John Galliano. The collection, part of a two-year project between Galliano and Zara, has quickly sparked discussion among consumers.

Following the launch, criticism has focused on the materials used and the pricing of the items. Some social media users described the collection's garments as "rags" put together with "hot glue," pointing to the perceived low quality and construction of several pieces.

The collaboration with Galliano began in March, with the designer tasked to upcycle old Zara stock into four new collections. The first collection, titled "Re{form} Zara Authored by the Couturier John Galliano," became available yesterday.

Galliano's career has previously been marred by racist and antisemitic remarks, which led to his dismissal from Christian Dior in 2011. While the Met Museum had initially planned a retrospective for the designer, Galliano withdrew from the exhibition amid public outcry. Zara, however, has continued its collaboration with the designer without public criticism from the company.

Prices in the collection range from approximately $29.99 for small accessories to $999 for elaborate dresses. While some customers have praised Galliano's work as "divine" and "beautiful," others have questioned the partnership with a fast fashion brand given his past controversies.
