Zeekr Addresses Issues with Car Infotainment Systems Abroad
Electric vehicle maker Zeekr has implemented solutions after some users reported their car's infotainment systems were remotely locked during overseas trips.
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Zeekr has announced it has resolved an issue where car infotainment systems were remotely locked for customers traveling abroad. The incidents, which rendered vehicles with disabled smart functions and restricted access to storage compartments, disrupted customer travel plans.
Zeekr had previously stated the system was a common industry anti-theft measure to protect vehicle property and comply with international regulations. However, the company acknowledged that while the security feature did not impact the vehicle's core driving functions, it caused significant user inconvenience.
In response to customer feedback, Zeekr has introduced several emergency measures. A new "Cross-border Guardian" feature has been added to the company's mobile app, providing a quick, self-service unlocking process. Additionally, an upcoming Over-The-Air (OTA) software update will set this security feature to be disabled by default, allowing drivers to choose whether to activate it before traveling internationally.
The company has also enhanced its customer support with a 24/7 hotline offering priority access for customers currently abroad or planning to travel. Zeekr emphasized its commitment to both vehicle safety and user experience, aiming to balance these priorities.
