Zeekr plans luxury off-road SUV for 2029 market release

Chinese EV manufacturer Zeekr is reportedly in the early stages of planning an off-road SUV, with production targeted for 2028-2029.

Zeekr, a subsidiary of the Geely Group, is currently sourcing components and assessing development plans for a new off-road SUV model. Sources indicate that the project is aimed at competing within the luxury off-road vehicle segment, with industry benchmarks drawing comparisons to the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon.

While the project has not been formally finalized, technical specifications are expected to center on independent electric drive control and advanced air suspension systems. The company aims to address a market segment looking for vehicles priced above 500,000 yuan that offer a balance between urban driving comfort and off-road capability.

This move aligns with broader diversification efforts announced by Zeekr executives earlier this year, signaling an intent to expand beyond traditional sedans and crossovers. The projected production window of 2028-2029 suggests a long-term strategy to capture market share among premium off-road buyers.
