Zocdoc Expands Healthcare Appointment Infrastructure to Other Platforms

Online appointment scheduling service Zocdoc is expanding its "Care Access Network," allowing its infrastructure to be licensed by other platforms where patients search for and book medical appointments.

Platforms rolling out the feature include Yelp, Healthgrades, and Amazon Health AI, which will use the technology for nationwide appointment booking. Blue Shield of California and the Veterans Health Administration, in partnership with Wellhive, are also integrating the system. The technology enables users to see and book open appointments with local clinicians, sortable by accepted insurance.

The move aims to address significant delays in healthcare access, with the average physician appointment wait time around 31 days. Zocdoc CEO Oliver Kharraz stated that healthcare is the last major consumer industry lacking a universal access layer for booking.

Zocdoc has spent years building its network of 200,000 providers and developing the technology to integrate with various scheduling systems. The company has served 20 million patients and has been profitable on an annual basis since 2023.
