Zomato Introduces Cash on Delivery Fee

Zomato, a prominent food delivery service in India, has started implementing a new charge for customers opting for cash on delivery (COD). This fee, which ranges from ₹5 to ₹21 per order, is applied on top of existing charges like platform fees, delivery costs, and taxes.

The company states that the new levy is intended to cover the handling expenses associated with COD, mitigate order risks, and encourage a shift towards digital payment methods. This move represents another avenue for Zomato to monetize its customer base and potentially improve its profit margins.

This pricing adjustment occurs amidst heightened competition in the food delivery market, with rivals such as Flipkart, Rapido, and newer entrants like Swish actively expanding their services. The introduction of COD fees could impact Zomato's customer retention and its competitive standing.

This latest fee structure follows a prior increase in Zomato's platform fee earlier this year, which was raised by nearly 20% to ₹14.90. These consecutive pricing strategies indicate Zomato's focus on boosting revenue and profitability in a challenging market.
