Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) has finished the main hull assembly of the first Service Operation Vessel (SOV) constructed for French offshore wind fleet operator LD Armateurs (LDA). The 90-meter-long, 19.6-meter-wide vessel is designed for global operations in severe sea conditions and can accommodate up to 96 technicians and staff for missions exceeding 30 days without resupply.

The vessel will function as a floating base, featuring a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with lithium-battery backup intended to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. It is equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system, a telescopic motion-compensated gangway, and a 3D motion-compensated crane for safe personnel and equipment transfer in challenging seas.

Crew well-being was a design consideration, aiming to maintain alertness and effectiveness during extended rotations. Upon delivery, the SOV will be deployed at the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms in Germany to provide long-term maintenance support and spare parts replacement.
