Zuckerberg: Meta Made $200B AI Bet Without Certainty
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the company committed up to $200 billion to AI infrastructure last year without assurance of success.

Meta Platforms invested heavily in artificial intelligence last year, even as CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted there was no certainty of a successful outcome. Zuckerberg stated in the Cheeky Pint podcast that he approved around $100 billion to $200 billion in AI infrastructure spending.
He also expressed uncertainty regarding user reception for Meta's recently launched AI assistant, Muse. While Muse has been demonstrated controlling applications on a Mac, the extent of its public rollout remains unclear. Meta released Muse Wonder, an AI model family intended to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic, on October 12.
Investors are closely watching Meta's significant AI investments, which have led to upward revisions in capital expenditure forecasts. The company previously raised its projected capital expenditure for 2026 to between $125 billion and $145 billion. This range encompasses total capital spending, not solely AI-related costs.
Competitors in the tech industry, such as Alphabet, have also announced substantial plans for infrastructure spending, indicating a broader trend of significant investment in AI capabilities across the sector.
