Zurich Airport Launches EU Entry/Exit System with secunet Technology
Zurich Airport, Switzerland's busiest international airport, began operating the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) on November 17, 2025. secunet provides the border control technology for the system.

Zurich Airport, Switzerland's busiest international hub, initiated the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) on November 17, 2025. secunet Security Networks AG is supplying the border control technology for the system, a key component of the European Union's efforts to enhance traveler management and border security.
The new EES aims to boost security by systematically registering border crossings for non-EU citizens. The system involves capturing biometric data, including facial images, and automating identity verification. At Zurich Airport, secunet's solutions also enable travelers to pre-register their data via self-service kiosks, thereby reducing wait times and streamlining the passenger journey.
The EES represents the most significant change in border control within the Schengen Area since its inception, replacing the traditional passport stamping with a systematic biometric data collection for all travelers crossing the EU's external borders. secunet has previously deployed similar systems for border authorities in several Schengen states, including Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
secunet is providing a suite of solutions from its border control portfolio to Zurich Airport. These include automated border control systems (ABC), self-service kiosks, facial recognition cameras, and a central server component that integrates the various elements and communicates directly with the EU's central EES database. These technologies are designed to enhance security and efficiency at border crossings while supporting European digital sovereignty.
