Health advocacy organization Community Catalyst has launched a new initiative aimed at developing a sustainable model for building community power. The program will pilot in six locations, seeking to create lasting systemic change that can withstand political and economic shifts.
The project's goal is to establish a replicable framework for empowering communities to advocate for their health and well-being. This initiative addresses challenges such as health disparities affecting Black Americans and communities of color, a lack of integrated models for translating community influence into tangible change, and the vulnerability of health equity gains to backlash and shifts in institutional power.
"This investment allows us to build something that lasts: community power strong enough to hold through any election result, any corporate board decision, and any special interest agenda," stated Linda Goler Blount, President & CEO of Community Catalyst. The organization aims to provide a solution to a long-standing question within the advocacy movement regarding how to secure enduring progress.
This effort builds upon Community Catalyst's 25-year history of health advocacy and previous collaborations with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Past joint projects have focused on implementing the Affordable Care Act, improving community health, and increasing consumer input in healthcare decision-making.
