Microsoft Entra ID ottaa Passkeyn käyttöön oletuksena syyskuussa

Microsoft Entra ID is shifting to Passkeys as its default authentication method starting in September. Users who previously relied on SMS or voice verification codes for multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be prompted to register a Passkey during their next MFA attempt.

This change applies to Microsoft Entra ID in public cloud environments. Microsoft has stated that further details regarding support plans and migration guidelines for other cloud environments will be announced later.

Furthermore, Microsoft will discontinue its SMS and voice verification code services on February 1, 2027. Users still using these methods for authentication will need to migrate to Passkey or arrange for paid SMS/voice verification services through third-party telecom providers before the deadline.
