Moldovan e-government introduces digital IDs in banking sector
Moldovan e-government agency EVO has integrated its digital identification system into four major banks, allowing customers to use digital IDs for services.
Moldovan citizens can now use digital identification credentials issued by the country's e-government agency, EVO, for banking services. Four banks – Moldindconbank, FinComBank, EuroCreditBank, and Victoriabank – have begun accepting these digital IDs.
The move aims to streamline access to financial services and enhance the security of online transactions. EVO's digital identifiers are designed to comply with European Union standards, facilitating interoperability and trust.
This integration marks a significant step in Moldova's digitalization efforts, extending the use of secure digital identities beyond public administration into the private financial sector. The e-government agency stated the system's development aligns with the country's broader strategy to modernize public services and align with international digital governance frameworks.
Further expansion of the digital ID system to other sectors is anticipated, building on the current banking integration.
