Plan International ja yli 500 muuta järjestöä 60 maasta ovat allekirjoittaneet avoimen kirjeen, jossa vaaditaan välitöntä tulitaukoa Gazan kaistalla ja Israelissa humanitaarisen katastrofin estämiseksi.
More than 500 organizations from 60 countries, including Plan International, have issued an urgent call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Israel. The joint open letter, signed on October 20, 2023, highlights the devastating loss of life and destruction occurring in the region.
The organizations emphasized the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza, where essential supplies such as water, food, and medical resources are reportedly running out due to a siege. The UN has warned of severe dehydration and potential deaths, particularly among children. Reports indicate widespread destruction, leaving Palestinians with nowhere to seek safety.
"The events of the last week have led us to the precipice of a humanitarian catastrophe, and the world can no longer wait to act," the letter states. The signatories are urging all Heads of State, the UN Security Council, and on-ground actors to prioritize human life and facilitate immediate humanitarian aid.
The demands include unhindered delivery of life-saving assistance, the release of all civilian hostages, protection for humanitarian facilities and civilians in Gaza, rescinding evacuation orders for civilians, and allowing medical evacuations. The organizations stress that a ceasefire is the only option to avert further civilian casualties and a widespread humanitarian crisis.
