Global higher education analysis firm QS Quacquarelli Symonds has released its QS Arab University Rankings for 2027, evaluating 325 universities across 20 locations in the Arab region. The rankings show Saudi Arabia and the UAE with the strongest representation in the top tier, each securing three institutions within the top 10.

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Saudi Arabia retained its top position, while Khalifa University in the UAE moved up to second place. Qatar University secured third place. The rankings also highlight the growing strength of institutions in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with both nations having multiple universities in the top 50 and leading in specific metrics like employer reputation and academic reputation.

Beyond the leading Gulf states, the rankings indicate a broader distribution of excellence. Lebanon, Oman, and Jordan each have one university in the top 10. The report also notes increasing momentum from countries such as Morocco, which now has two universities in the top 100, and Palestine, which achieved its highest-ranked university to date.

QS highlighted that Saudi Arabia's KFUPM leads in Employer Reputation, while King Saud University is recognized for International Research Network and Web Impact. The UAE's institutions performed strongly in International Faculty and International Students metrics. Qatar University notably ranked first for Faculty Student Ratio and Papers per Faculty. Egypt, with 44 ranked universities, showed significant presence, as did Jordan and Lebanon, with an increased number of institutions in the top 100 and top 20 respectively.
